OUR VALUES

Our mission is to provide high-quality, accessible holistic healthcare and education in an effort to cultivate long-standing relationships between highly trained practitioners and the community that are socially and economically just.

History

We began Five Point Holistic Health in 2014 as five acupuncture students who were disappointed by the lack of group acupuncture practices in Chicago. We needed jobs and the idea of starting a private practice felt isolating and expensive. We were also struck by the fact that we couldn't even afford our own medicine, as we didn't have insurance coverage for acupuncture, and private sessions typically cost between $80-$150. We decided to pool our resources and open Five Point: a worker-cooperative with the mission of providing quality, accessible holistic healthcare. We planted our roots in Logan Square, as most of us call the west-side of Chicago home, and we saw a lack of East Asian medicine practitioners in this area.

As we approach our 5th anniversary, we employ five acupuncturists, two massage therapists, and three front desk staff and give over 7,000 treatments per year. We have recently been able to offer health benefits and paid-time-off to all of our full-time workers.

Treatment Philosophy

At Five Point, we offer a variety of modalities and healthcare services that focus on holistic-centered medicine. It is our goal to direct you to the right treatment intervention, in service of both your immediate needs and long-term health and wellbeing. We believe in creating an inclusive environment where you feel safe, cared for and listened to and where trust is built, valued and nurtured between you and our healthcare practitioners.

Business Values

We operate as a worker cooperative, which is a business entity that is owned and controlled by the people who work in it. Five Point is unique because it is owned by practitioners of East Asian medicine, not outside investors. The interests of our workers, our patients, and our community always come before profits. Unlike traditional business models, all workers have an opportunity to become owners in order to share in the overall success of the business, participate in business operations and influence future direction.

We uphold the original principles of all cooperatives, which assume the values of self help, self responsibility, democracy, equality, equity and solidarity. These values dictate that we conduct our business with a basic philosophy of honesty, openness, social responsibility, and community engagement. Read more about our co-op values.
