Funding Our Future
Five Point Holistic Health is at an exciting turning point, and we’re reaching out to our community for support as we take the next big step.
The Wealth Our Way program, a $4 million, city-funded initiative from Community Desk Chicago, provides both funding and technical coaching to organizations looking to revitalize their neighborhoods through commercial redevelopment. Five Point Holistic Health is one of six shared-ownership business projects across Chicago who were awarded this grant to rehabilitate part of our commercial building to support expansion of the co-op’s holistic health services.
What are we doing with the grant funds?
Grant funding will be used to rehabilitate and upgrade parts of our building with the goals of increasing accessibility, enhancing privacy and sound proofing, improving aesthetics and comfort, and expanding our holistic health services. Specifically, we’ll be building and adding:
An ADA wheelchair lift
Updated bathrooms and kitchenette on the second floor
Glass wall and door for the class/workshop space
New HVAC
Repairs to our ceiling and roof
And more
What does Five Point need?
While Five Point is truly fortunate to have been awarded this grant, we need to raise additional funds to make our goals a reality. The grant only covers 75% of the construction costs, and other costs are not covered by the grant, such as furniture, fixtures, and treatment supplies, as well as employee costs should we have to close for a few days. We’re seeking to raise $100,000 through fundraising and increased business over the next six months.
Loans and lines of credit are a last resort we’re hoping to avoid. Five Point has debt from covid-era EIDL loans and other small business loans which helped us survive the pandemic and build out our current space, which opened in 2023. These debt obligations are manageable, but we’re trying to avoid incurring more in order to maintain our financial stability.
We’re exploring other grants to help with our funding gap, but these options are not guaranteed or may not come through until after the funds are needed.
How can I help?
First and foremost, book an appointment, buy a gift certificate, purchase items from our apothecary, and tell a friend about us. The best way to support us is by servicing our business and spreading the word! Additionally, we have a few other ways to help support us:
Package promo - From May 18 - June 12, any package purchased comes with raffle tickets to win Five Point services and gift certificates from local businesses
Open House & Rummage Sale - Join us on Friday, June 12 from 5-7pm for an open house to help us celebrate 12 years in business and to raise funds for our expansion project. Meet and greet with our practitioners while learning more about our upcoming plans. We’ll have light food and drinks, ear acupuncture, items for sale, a raffle, and more
Donate to our Go Fund Me - Direct donations have the biggest impact on funding our plans
Please note, since Five Point is a cooperatively-owned for-profit organization, any financial contributions are not tax deductible and will be considered a gift. Any individual’s ability to contribute or not will have no effect on their patient care.
What is the timeline for construction?
We expect work to start Monday, June 15. Phase 1 of the work will happen on the first floor. We’ll be adding partition walls, which will create two new private treatment rooms in the back of our community room, as well as finishing another partially-finished treatment room. We anticipate this phase will be complete in early August. Phase 2 will focus on the second floor, where most of the work will happen, and we anticipate completion in November. We plan to remain open for acupuncture and massage services during construction.
How will patient care be affected?
Beginning June 1, all psychotherapy will move to virtual sessions or take place at another site in the neighborhood. Your therapist will be in touch with you regarding their individual plans.
Beginning June 15, our schedule for first-floor services (acupuncture and massage) will shift to 1pm-8pm Monday - Thursday, and 1pm-6pm on Fridays. Construction will be happening each day from 7am - noon. Weekend hours will stay the same.
We may periodically close on days where we anticipate that high levels of dust, fumes, or noise will impact patient care and comfort. We will do our best to provide as much advanced notice as possible as these days approach.
No classes or workshops will be taking place at Five Point until early 2027. If you attend regular classes like qi gong or tai chi, please connect with your instructor about alternative class sites.
We’re incredibly grateful for the community we’ve served over the last 12 years. Your support is what has made our business possible. Thank you in advance for your patience during a few months of construction as we expand our capacity to be a hub for holistic healthcare and community engagement.
